Our weightlifting clinics will, very simply, teach you to lift using world-class technique so that you can lift more weight, more efficiently.  I wrote my book, Power Trip: a guide for weightlifters, parents and coaches, to define, teach and simplify these techniques and in our clinics, I bring them to you in a hands-on fashion.   Power Trip’s techniques will rid you of the “jumping and shrugging up” model used in theU.S. and teach you what I call, the “catapult and get under” method, used for decades by top Olympic lifters in the rest of the world.  And, make no mistake, getting under the bar in correct position, not how high you pull it, is the critical skill to have if you want to make significant gains in the snatch and the clean.

(Don is) – “a very knowledgable coach who has a passion for coaching and teaching!” –Mike Burgener, Head of CrossFit’s Olympic Weightlifting Certification program, USAW Sr. Intl. Coach

I’ll teach you the important lifting terminology, pre-drills and Power Trip’s 10-Step Progression that will help you perfect your Olympic lifting technique.  By the end of the clinic, you will know where your important posterior chain muscles are and how to use them properly during the lifts.  You’ll know how to set-up better and to receive the bar correctly and how the hips run the show during the pull.  And very soon, the Olympic lifts will cease to be a mystery, the bar won’t constantly be dropping in front of you, you won’t be skinning your shins and weights won’t feel heavy all the time.

Don McCauley is one of the most accomplished coaches around, and in particular specializes in teaching and correcting the pull for both the snatch and clean. I seek his advice regularly for my own athletes.-Glenn Pendlay, Head Coach CalStrength Weightlifting Team, USAW Intl. Coach, Owner-Pendlay Elite Equipment

After a short chalkboard session, Power Trip clinics get into hands-on mode.  And, after we teach you how to move through these lifts and how to “perform your trick”, using the techniques the best in the world use, we’ll give you something more valuable.  We’ll give you, in our “open lifting” session, the basics of recognizing some of your own technique mistakes and the ability to coach each other long after we’ve gone.  And that will help you all continue to improve, which is our major goal by coming out and doing our clinic with you.

Don McCauley is a committed and passionate coach who knows his craft in every detail, lucky are those who elicit his advice and attention. Jeff-Mikki Martin, Co-Head Certifiers and developers of the CrossFit Kids program

Our clinics are only presented to small groups (15 or less) so we can provide hands-on teaching and listen to everyone’s questions. They will typically last about 4 ½ to 5 hours, with a short lunch and one or two short “take a breath” breaks along the way.  Come ready to lift. Come ready to learn.

“Coach McCauley does an excellent job breaking down the Olympic lifts into simple, effective, and easy to follow progressions. His explanations are straight forward, insightful, and appropriate. His weightlifting clinic was a great experience that immediately improved my Olympic lifting technique, knowledge, and results.” – Jeff Martone, Head Kettlebell Instructor for CrossFit, Owner-Tactical Athlete Training Systems

Suggestions and Info

We own a CrossFit here in Savannah and we want you to have a successful clinic for your members.  We suggest that you make it affordable for them (cover your costs for us; $125-150 has been charged.) and promote it with other local CrossFit gyms, if necessary, to fill the clinic(s).  You may find that hosting two clinics is more affordable than hosting one.  As host, your trainers can attend the clinic for free, of course.  Please make sure there are no more than 15 total attendees at any one clinic.  Contact us after booking a clinic and keep us in the loop as to any changes that have to be made.  We will do the same for you.

“No athlete new to the Olympic lifts could find themselves in better or more professional hands than Don McCauley’s. He is one of a tiny handful of American coaches to whom I would entrust my own athletes.” -Dan Bell, USAW Senior Coach (w/ Mark Cannella, Holley Mangold’s coaching team)

To host a clinic, you will need at least five Olympic bars, enough bumper plates and space for 5 groups of 3 lifters to train at the same time and PVC pipes for everyone.  Suggest lifting shoes be worn, if possible, but usual training shoes are ok. It’s a good idea to bring a lunch and supplement drinks.
