I received my CrossFit certification in 2008 and have been a C.S.C.S (NSCA) for 10 years and a Regional Coach with the USAW, which is the national Olympic weightlifting federation, for 15 years. Last year I also reactivated my coaching at Level I with the national track and field federation. In addition to my coaching, I spent many years working with mentally challenged children and adults in classroom and group home settings.
My main area of coaching over the last 20 years or so has been with Olympic weightlifters. I have had several national level athletes and have coached three athletes who have reached the level of World Team members and presently am the coach of a 3-time Olympian. I have been lucky enough to see two of my athletes win national level championships and have had them be ranked among the very best in the country for several years.
I have coached strength and conditioning for high school football, baseball, soccer and volleyball teams and have also coached the throws in track and field (shot, discus, javelin, and hammer) at that level. One of my athletes won the national high school championship in the javelin. And, in the 80’s I also coached Power lifting and did coach a World (drug-free) champion.
I competed in track and field as a miler in high school and later competed in road racing. In my twenties I competed in Olympic weightlifting in New England under the coaching of Harold Bailey, who did a lot with a little. In my late 30’s I took up Power lifting and competed as a Master (age group) lifter for several years in the old ADFPA (drug-free federation). I began coaching Olympic weightlifting in earnest in the 80’s and have been doing that ever since. I have been lucky enough to coach some very good weightlifters in my career.

I started Olympic Weightlifting when I was 21, and fell in love with the sport. Finished my college education as a nurse, and continued to lift, moving with my coach to Savannah in 1999 to train for the 2000 Olympics (making the team as an Alternate). I currently practice Olympic Weightlifting, Tae Kwon Do (Black Belt in January 2011), Crossfit, and amateur runner. Though I am a better Olympic weightlifter, have been so impressed with the sport of Crossfit and the athletes doing Crossfit, that I am making a career change to Crossfit trainer.
One thing that gives me a unique perspective in the Crossfit/athletic field is that I see every day while working as a nurse, people who have not taken care of themselves. Poor food choices and lack of exercise is behind many of the chronic health conditions our society is being afflicted with, and it is so rewarding to work with a group of people who want to better themselves. I am so excited to be working with you, and hope that you find it as rewarding as I do.
